In the grand scheme of things I’m fairly new to the car show thing, but I am discovering that there are a lot of them about, and depending how far your prepared to drive, or how reliable your ride is, you really could have a expensive but fun show season. Last year I did a few, this year I’m doing some and hopefully next year Ill be doing loads, but it depend on the show. For example Classic Ford, its for Classic’s right? Sadly wrong, due to whatever reason people want to say Kelsey Media who put on Classic Ford (and some others) opened up the age bracket for a classic to 2002 and this has had many people rightly so in my opinion in uproar. I went there a bit gutted that I hadn’t been before and in fear that this would just be another Ford Fest, which really should have been called Focus Fest, or mk6 Fez Fest or something like that, it wasn’t great. But I was very pleasantly surprised. I thought there was a great turn out of old skool rides, and even tho it wasn’t as busy as Ford Fest it was way more quality than quantity.
So me and my mate took a 4 hour drive (well 3 hours plus stops) up from the sunny south coast, we sweated our tits off all the way up there, the car performed faultlessly, which is always a relief. We made good time and found are pod friends pretty quick, but when I finally parked up and got out the car expecting to be nicely warm, the pod breeze hit me and the bomb dropped, I was seriously unprepared, I had a lidli BBQ, some sausages and a pair of trackies, so yea I was pretty cold. Anyway we parked up, set up and went for a wonder around the field. While we were wondering around it occurred to me that I had just driven 145miles to camp in a giant carpark and then it made sense why my wife wasn’t really up for it. Anyway after a cold night I woke up feeling pretty good, and when I got out the tent to see all the cars lining up, hearing the rumble of exhausts, I started to get pretty excited.
So we joined the que and rolled in, finding our spot was pretty straight forward, and I got to park beside two pretty ratty fez, with two stunning white mk2s in front of me, so as spots go it was pretty rad. Once we were parked it was off for a wander, grab a coffee and see what we could see. And there was so much to see. Unlike Ford Fest it really was mainly old skool, with fez, escort’s, cortina’s, capri’s and anglia’s a plenty. The auto jumble looked alright but as I was broke I wasn’t really looking, if I’d had money tho it would have easily spent it, with a couple of Capri pots taking my interest. So past the jumble and over to the bank to watch the strip. I think this is where pod is far more up my street, I’ve not been to Brands and I’d like to go but I really aint to fussed about watching people go round the track, partly as I don’t trust my ride enough to get round the track, but also unless your drifting its a bit dull to watch, where as the drag strip, it has excitement every 20 or so seconds, the noise is amazing and the craziness of the cars is just something else. Oh and yea don’t forget the Jet car which is unreal, the noise is just indescribable. So anyway, we walked about, took a shed load of pictures, and after a fair few hours it was time to get back in the old XR for another faultless 145miles home.
I’ve been to a few shows this year so far, the first was InCarNation, it was good, it was local and my best entrance photo so far but I wasn’t a fan of being engulfed in a cloud of vape smoke, monster energy drinks, and lets be honest annoying arrogant kids who reckon they are the shit. Then Fez in the park, this was much nicer, better people, better cars, little to no vaping but was a bit too modern, I love fiestas (meh mk4/5) but obviously variety is the key to life, and then Classic, which at the mo is my top show, lots of really rad old skool rides, the same rad Ford people and a drag strip, winner…
So many cars stood out at Classic, the decked escort, the ratrod, the crazy drag monster red mk2 frankinfez, too many to remember, but here’s a bunch of pics to give you an idea. Great show, will deff go next year.
